What is the art of the subtle British man? Stephenson takes stories, experiences himself and those told to him and weaves them, condenses and poetizes them into something so conclusive that one is inclined to sing along right from the first listening. There’s so much you can easily love – the Beatles, James Taylor, mental depth and the feeling of being in love on a spring day. This was the case on his first CD "Light Green Ball" and is no different on These Days. Stephenson’s stories are touching in the best sense of the word and that means they are never sentimental. However, it is noticeable that the singer’s view of the world has not become dark, but that the delicate and fragrant today is also dark, like clouds moving in the sky. As usual, the proven stockfish musicians also unfold the entire spectrum on this CD between the finest sound swabs and the great coarse dynamic style. The ingenious highlight is the last piece, which comes in a cheerful robe reminiscent of folk dance and ends brilliantly in the crash and scream of a fireworks display. Listener – what has got into you? Like "Light Green Ball", These Days is also a poem. Like planning a journey into the unknown with the friends of a golden youth, perhaps a journey to yourself. Will the great love be there? In Paul Stephenson’s music, the answer is a comforting "yes", as beautiful as the light captured in a gem: "Heaven on Earth Today".
