The first installment in a projected survey of the complete symphonies by Prokofiev, performed by the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra under Principal Guest Conductor James Gaffigan! This is an important contribution to the discography of the orchestra, which previously recorded the complete symphonies of composers such as Bruckner (under Jaap van Zweden), Rachmaninov (under Edo de Waart), and Hartmann (under various conductors). James Gaffigan, born in 1979, is one of the leading conductors of his generation alongside Kirill Petrenko, Andris Nelson, and Yannick Nezet-Seguin.
