故事集中在霍金在剑桥求学阶段,主要阐述霍金与同学Jane Wilde之间的感情。他们在学生时代相爱,在霍金被诊断患有卢伽雷氏症之后,依旧决定嫁给他。两人在1965年结婚,最终他们的婚姻维持到1991年。“小雀斑”雷德梅恩将饰演少年时代的霍金,菲丽西缇·琼斯饰演他的同窗,也是日后的妻子Jane Wilde。
