Cassie Ann is one of those fortunate people who knew what they wanted to do, see and get out of life before entering adulthood. As a youngster, raised near Munich, she began learning the piano and flute, as well as gracing the stages of her local area. In fact, by the age of 18, she was developing a professional musical persona as she walked along her journey as a musician. Living in various places across the globe, from Berlin to Costa Rica and Los Angeles, Cassie Ann was inspired by different cultures and styles creating a unique style that is entirely hers. Melding global diversity in her “happy pop music”, she is breathing fresh air into a somewhat stagnating pop scene.
On the heels of her well-received single ‘Bitter End’, Cassie Ann releases her debut EP, Journey of the Heart. Ideally released on Valentine’s Day, she delves into the complexities of love from the “butterflies in your tummy” first moments to tragic heartache. Co-written, recorded and produced with various industry professionals including Nico Bastian Neumann, Janek Brehm, Felix Flaxl, and Felix Averian, each track inserts a slip of intimate vulnerability into a sophisticated overall piece of art. Sitting at the table with Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and Ariana Grande, Cassie Ann captures the core of pure pop in her opening track, ‘Last December’. In a swirl of bold beats and shimmering synths, the single is a kaleidoscopic rush of fairy dust brimming with wistful vibes. While one might assume the breezy, laidback ‘Last December’ to be the expression of new love, it is one of past love – but one flushed with empowerment and acceptance. Continuing the pop flow, ‘Possibilities’, ‘Bitter End’ and ‘Wild Dance’ prance along with upbeat, hard-hitting electropop. For me, ‘Wild Dance’ is one of the fiercest melodies on Journey of the Heart. Pulsating with bold beats, she captures the heat of ending relationships with an empowering swish of her hair and a cheeky grin. Closing with the intoxicating ‘Cloud 9’, Cassie Ann leaves in a gust of mellifluous music pumped with a linger Latin beat. On a rollercoaster ride of pop music, Cassie Ann lays raw emotion out with intricate vocals, bold beats, shimmering synths, and complex lyricism. For me, Journey of the Heart is ideal for pop fans, particularly those who enjoy Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift; however, even if you’re not a pop fan, the emotion oozing from her moving melodies is enough to change your mind. 01.
