A friend of mine heard the recording of Introduction and Allegro on the radio without knowing the details and he was very impressed. We found the details.
What a superb representation of these two composers.
Like another reviewer on here, it is the best interpretation of The Lark Ascending since Hugh Bean in the sixties which has always been a favourite of mine. The Tallis is simply beautiful and so atmospheric.
The selection of Elgar works is equally captivating culminating in the superb Introduction and Allegro.
I am not a musician and cannot play or read music but this cd is recorded in the Cadogan Hall with Zukermann conducting from the violin and to use a much abused phrase “he has nailed it!”
Anyone who thinks Elgar to be stuffy, then listen to this interpretation by a master and a superb orchestra. The Vaughan Williams will captivate you also.
At the price too, this is an unmissable bargain!
