| Hélène Schmidt! Women’s Pieces on Gut Strings! This is the third Aeolus recording by Hélène Schmidt, one of France’s leading baroque violinists! The new program is developed by an axis that links France and the United States, and includes a collection of violin pieces by six women composers from both sides of the Atlantic. These are gems of warmth and sensitivity, ranging from pure romanticism to “careful detachment from tonality”.The jacket features the work of French Symbolist painter Maurice Denis, “July” (1892), which enhances the artistic quality of the album as a whole. The violin (Michele Deconetti 1764) used by Hélène Schmidt this time is of modern specifications, but gut strings are used for the strings.Together with the 1886 New York Steinway, with pianist Antoine de Grolley providing eloquent and sensitive accompaniment, they harmonize beautifully in this French-American program.
