Yine gel 17 – Mozart & Mevlana, Op. 110_ II. Yedi öğüt Mozart’s Requiem, the axiological masterpiece where mysticism and fear, light and death intertwine, retains a large element of the unknown and the composer’s premature death left its pages unfinished. Hastily completed by Süssmayr, the final product straddles truth and falsification. In 2024, Turkish composer Fazıl Say, prompted by the artistic director of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, Numa Bischof Ullmann, was invited to take the Requiem on. But rather than altering or completing it, he chose to create a tribute. In Mozart ve Mevlana, he weaves Mozartian reminiscences together with the mystical texts of Rûmî, champion of Sufism and poet of unity. While having preserved the original work’s instrumentation, he has added the ney and the kudüm, traditional Turkish instruments, bringing a unique sonic colour imbued with tradition and spirituality. This album brings together an extraordinary ensemble of musicians from around the world: Fatma Said from Egypt, Marianne Crebassa from France, Pene Pati from the Samoa Islands, and Alexandros Stavrakakis from Greece, alongside the excellent Berlin Radio Choir and the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra. So many nationalities, religions, and cultures united through music. In Fazıl Say’s own words: “Thus I achieved my goal: to reflect this bridge between East and West through music, built on mutual admiration and friendship.” |
